INTERPHALANGEAL JOINTS

DESCRIPTION: The articular surfaces of these joints are the heads of the proximal /or middle phalanges and the bases of middle  or distal phalanges. There are 3 phalanges  to the 2nd to 5th toe but only two for the big toe.

         Medial plantar artery and branches

         Superficial branch of lateral plantar artery

         Plantar arch and branches

MOVEMENTS:

         Flexion: Produced by flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum brevis and flexor accessorius.

         Extension: Produced by extensor digitorum longus, extensor digitorum brevis and extensor hallucis longus.
