ILIOLUMBAR ARTERY

 

 

ORIGIN: Posterior division of internal iliac artery.

 

COURSE/DISTRIBUTION: This artery arises from the posterior division of the internal iliac artery and ascends laterally anterior to the sacroiliac joint and lumbosacral trunk, but running behind the external iliac vessels and obturator nerve. It then reaches the medial border of psoas major where it divides into its terminal branches lumbar and iliac branches. It supplies muscles of the ilolumbar region such as quadratus lumborum, psoas muscles and the iliacus.

  • Lumbar branch
  • Iliac branch.
