Dorsal surface

      Origin

            Extensor digitorum brevis arises from anterosuperior surface of the calcaneus.

       Insertion

            Plantaris is inserted into the posterior surface of calcaneus.

            Tendo calcaneus for soleus and gastrocnemius is inserted into the posterior surface of calcaneus.

Plantar surface

      Origin

Abductor hallucis arises from the medial process of calcanean tuberosity  

            Flexor digitorum brevis arises from the medial process of the calcanean tuberosity.

      Abductor digiti minimi arises from the medial and lateral

        processes of the calcanean tuberosity.

      Flexor accessorius arises by two heads

            Medial head arises from medial aspect of plantar surface of calcaneus.

      Lateral head arises from lateral aspect of the plantar

                    surface of calcaneus.

      Flexor hallucis brevis arises from plantar surface of cuboid.

           

      Insertion

            Tibialis posterior is inserted into the plantar surface of the tuberosity of navicular from where extension ligaments connect to all other tarsal bones (including medial four metatarsals) excepting the talus.
