The ethmoid bone is single and placed mostly internally, although it projects part of its lateral surface externally.

It has three main parts

Cribriform plate of ethmoid placed in the anterior cranial fossa

Perpendicular plate of ethmoid placed in the upper part of nasal septum

Ethmoidal labyrinths or masses which carry the anterior, posterior and middle ethmoidal air cell groups. They also are provided with two processes called the superior and middle nasal conchae

A crista galli projects from its perpendicular plate together with two alar processes.
