The sphenoid bone is single and internal, although a small portion (gGreater wingreater wing and pterygoid process) appears at the sides and base of skull.  It has the following parts

         Body of sphenoid

         Greater wing

         Lesser wing

         Sphenoidal concha

         Pterygoid process which is further divided into two     

            Lateral pterygoid plate

            Medial pterygoid plate which carries the pterygoid hamulus
