Quadriceps femoris tendon is inserted to the superior border of the patella. From this insertion, ligaments extend to the tibial tuberosity,  known as the ligamentum patellae (patella ligament). The quadriceps femoris is made up of four muscles- rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius and vastus medialis.
