Anterior aspect

      Origin

Vastus lateralis arises from anterior and inferior borders of greater
             trochanter
and intertrochanteric line.

Vastus  medialis arises from intertrochanteric line

Vastus intermedius arises from anterior surface (including lateral) of the
             femur.

Articularis genu arises from the anterior surface of distal aspect of

femur.

      Insertion

Psoas major is inserted into the lesser trochanter

Gluteus minimus is inserted into anterolateral aspect of greater
             trochanter

 Posterior aspect

      Origin

Vastus lateralis arises from the gluteal tuberosity and from the lateral lip
             of
linea aspera.

Vastus medialis arises from the spiral line, and medial lip of linea aspera extending to the proximal part of the medial supracondylar line.

Vastus intermedius arises from anterior and lateral surfaces of the shaft
             of the
femur.

Plantaris arises from distal part of lateral supracondylar line.

                  Gastrocnemius

  •                    Medial head arises from back of medial condyle of femur

  •                    Lateral head arises from lateral aspect of the lateral condyle of femur.

Biceps femoris (short head) arises from lateral lip of linea aspera.

       Insertion

Psoas major is inserted into lesser trochanter

Iliacus is inserted into the lesser trochanter

Pectineus is inserted into pectineal line running from the lesser
             trochanter
 to linea aspera.

Adductor brevis is inserted into the linea aspera between adductor
             longus
 and adductor magnus

Adductor longus is inserted into the linea aspera between the adductor
             brevis
and vastus medialis .

Adductor magnus is inserted into the linea aspera between biceps
             femoris
 (short head) and adductor longus.

Gluteus maximus is inserted into the gluteal tuberosity.

Gluteus medius is inserted into the greater trochanter.

Obturator externus is inserted into the trochanteric fossa

Quadratus femoris is inserted into the intertrochanteric crest
