The phalanges are the endoskeleton of the digits. There are five digits and they are

·    Thumb (pollex)

·     Index finger

·     Middle finger

·      Ring finger

·       Little finger

All the digits have three phalanges each which are labeled proximal, middle and distal with the exception of the thumb which has only two (proximal and distal). There are therefore 14 phalanges in all. All have ungual tuberosities at the tips of their distal phalanges.
