Cervical 7 vertebrae is unique because it has a prominent spine called the vertebra prominens. This is an important landmark at the back of the neck. Although it has a foramen transversarium, only an accessory vertebral vein passes through it, since the vertebral artery and vein enter from the neck directly to  C6 transverse foramen. It is also called vertebra prominens
